Obama continues to smear opponents

Obama goes back to the “they will try to scare you” complaint:

“I know that I’m not your typical presidential candidate,” Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., told executives and employees of the Schott glass company Friday afternoon, “and I just want to be honest with you. I know that.”

“And I know that the temptation is to say, ‘You know what? …The guy hasn’t been there that long in Washington.,’ You know, ‘he’s got funny name,’ You know, ‘we’re not sure about him,’” Obama continued. “And that’s what the Republicans, when they say, ‘This isn’t about issues, it’s about personalities,’ what they’re really saying is, ‘We’re going to try to scare people about Barack. So we’re going to say that you know, maybe he’s got Muslim connections or we’re going to say that, you know, he hangs out with radicals or he’s not patriotic.’

“Just making stuff up,” Obama said, “or that he never’s gotten anything done even though over the last 20 years I’ve given health care to kids who didn’t have it.”

Obama doesn’t believe there are any legitimate complaints about him so he keeps repeating this line that the GOP is out to scare voters about how he looks or so other nefarious threat.

But the fact is that Obama is a leftist and has always hung out with leftists.  That is what is scary.  He keeps pointing to small pieces of legislation that faced no opposition as proof that he has accomplished something.  But there are probably hundreds of legislators with such experience.  And even if you give Obama the exagerations he claims, his record come no where near someone of the stature of McCain.

And as I have pointed out a number of times already, Palin has shown some real courage and risk in taking on the corupt powers that be and even her own party.  And Obama hasn’t shown any inclination to take on the rampant corruption and cronyism in Chicago.

The reason personality and the candidates character is an issue is exactly because Obama wasn’t running on his experience but rather his vision and judgment.  But once he had won the primary he realized he decided to go the safe route and try and run a traditional campaign.  The race is closer than I imagine he thought it would be and he is in something he has never really faced: a partisan dogfight.

So Obama turns to what he always turns to when the pressure is on and that is to accuse the other side of racism and smears.  Mr. Thinskinned always turns to the whine when the attacks start.

And of course the irony is that the Obama campaign has done little but throw up decpetive ads and shout about McSame and Bush III, etc.  Team Obama is a long way away from the high road at this point.  But I guess they are playing to the base and to the friendly media.

A lot of this election is going to come down to how voters perceive this attempt to smear the GOP and the clear disconnect between Obama’s claim to idealism and an uplifting vision when he is running a defensive campaign with a platform of stale liberalism.
